New sights and smells

I've been working on my website, and here's what I have to show for it.  Hope you like it.  Oh, and I've been very fortunate to be featured in this month's Art Focus.  As I type the new issue isn't up online, but I'm sure it will be up soonish.

I've been applying to exhibitions here and there and am pleased to report that I will be exhibiting in January at Art Now Oklahoma.  So if you're in the area on January 20th come by City Arts in Oklahoma City and check out a great show put together by the lovely and talented Romy Owens.

Hope this beautiful fall weather is treating everyone well.  I know my family and I are soaking it up and looking forward to a month or two of red and yellow trees.

Dust and broken pieces

Well, the first week of grad school was productive. I made a pair of doilies, experienced the heat and joy of the Dustbowl Arts Market, and was asked to be in a local publication. I'm feeling like I'm on the right track, even though yesterday I broke one of the aforementioned doilies after I loaded it in the kiln. I just had to sand it a little more...

Here are a few images of the last week:

I think the 100+ degree heat didn't make my wool knits very appealing. Go figure.

Hand printed cotton totes $15 each.

Ceramic hairpins, cabled cowl, and tiny wall tiles.

Tiny tees for the babes $15 each

Sweet Maggie modeling the mustard cabled cowl.

Corally-pink doily tote $15.

Tweed infant and toddler knitted caps made from a merino and alpaca blend yarn & wool and organic cotton cowls for the babes, too.

Oodles of handprinted cards, sets of 3-5 cards $8-$10 per set

These days

Graduate school starts in about a week and I'm anxiously awaiting eight hour studio sessions as opposed to eight hour phone answering & mouse clicking sessions.

My fella and I just returned from Kansas City, MO where we spent the weekend ooooing and ahhhing at the bustling streets, vibrant art scene, incredible people, and the beautiful fountains & scenery. Our friends Dane and Jordan just moved up there last fall, Jordan makes killer work and you can find her blog here, and showed us a few of the many highlights. Visiting makes me think that KU in Lawerence is a good fit for my little family, so it has made the list of potential graduate schools.

I bought some super sweet frames from the ladies over at Donna's Dress Shop. Jordan said she had been dying to go in for quite some time and I'm sure we'll go back next time we're in town. I'm such a sucker for dresses that I think I could exchange work for them and coffee the rest of my days. Oh and cherries, too.

Anyone know of other nice shops in Kansas City, particularly ladies clothing shops, that I should visit the next time I visit?

The next step

So, after eight years in school I've earned my BFA. My family and I are eagerly awaiting a change in scenery, and while we love our home, we can't wait for a year or two somewhere new. And now I'm busy getting my things, and self, together for a big move next August.

Those North Carolina hills sure sound nice, but then again, so do those cool summer nights in Washington. I'm on the look out for MFA programs all over the country to apply to this winter and then I'll just be spending the next six months hoping someone will offer me a spot in their program.

So if you have any good thoughts to spare, or suggestions on ceramic graduate programs, send them my way.

in my own time

Here are a few photographs of my work in the "In My Own Time" exhibition at Gray Owl Coffeein Norman, Oklahoma. My friends who were kind enough to send me their work to showcase were Lulu Wolf, Michael Lortz and Ruth Ann Borum-Loveland. Their work is quite beautiful and I recommend you check it out.

Thank you to Mike Beavers for helping me hang this show in the wee hours of the morning, I hope you and your crew enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed showing there.

So, nearly one year later I'm making my second post. What can I say? It's been a busy year.

My hands have been coated in earth these past 6 months and it couldn't feel more right.

These clay doilies measure 20 inches across and are made of whiteware clay.
More to come.

First attempt.

Cataloging and recording one's life can be a simple daily ritual or in my case an overwhelmingly daunting task. Today is day one and I'll continue on this way, counting as I go, as a way to connect with those I care for and those I've yet to meet.

So wish me luck, if you will, and I'll try not to disappoint.
